Spring Cleaning Spotlight: Keep Your Plumbing in Top Shape with Drain Punch and P-Free
As winter melts away into memory and we feel the warmth of spring, it feels like the world is entering a time of renewal. Flowers bloom, trees regain their leafy crowns, and the days grow longer. It isn’t just nature, though, that gets in on the renewal fun – people all around begin to renew their homes through the time-honored tradition of spring cleaning.
There are the usual tasks, like organizing our closets, putting away the winter garb until it is needed next year. We dust our shelves and vacuum our floors. Now that we can comfortably work outside, we can also take care of all the little outdoor maintenance tasks it has been too cold to attend to. All of these are important steps in getting our homes ready for the new season.
That said, it’s also a good idea to give your home’s plumbing a little love, too. Taking the time to perform some simple preventative maintenance tasks on your plumbing now can save you a world of hassle down the road. No one likes to deal with unexpected and expensive repairs, especially when there are things you can do to prevent them. This year, why not include your plumbing, and with it P-Free and Drain Punch, in your spring cleaning routine?
Drain Punch and P-Free – The Perfect Pair for your Plumbing Maintenance Needs
Drain Punch and P-Free are each a potent product in their own right. But together, they form an unbeatable combination that between them can handle many plumbing upkeep tasks. It’s a dynamic duo like Batman and Robin, or peanut butter and jelly, or thinking of St. Patrick’s Day leprechauns and shamrocks – working in tandem they really create magic (however, like most powerful magic which must be exercised with care, it is important to NEVER mix Drain Punch and P-Free together).
Think of them as service calls in a bottle, able to give you results and save you your hard-earned money, as well as time. As you know, Drain Punch is a non-acid drain cleaner that liquifies organic matter, breaking up clogs caused by common culprits like soap scum, grease, fat, and hair, leaving your drains running smoothly. Its companion, P-Free, is an acid-based product that is perfect for use in urinals, toilets, and other similar fixtures. It hits mineral deposits, scale, and stubborn stains just as hard as Drain Punch hits organic matter, clearing the problem and leaving spotless fixtures behind.
Preventing Problems with Drain Punch and P-Free
As you are checking on your plumbing, if any of your drains are running slow, just pour in half of a bottle of Drain Punch and let it sit for half an hour. Once that time has elapsed, just flush with warm water and your drain should be running free. If the drains are running smoothly, use a quarter of the bottle instead. This will keep your drains flowing freely.
If you have stains in your toilet bowl, or under the rim, P-Free can handle it. Just take off the top of the tank and then slowly pour half a bottle of P-Free right into the overflow tube. By doing this, you not only get the bowl clean, you’ll also get the small tubes under the rim cleaned and opened up. Once the P-Free has made its way to the bowl, just use a toilet brush around the inside of the bowl and under the rim every 10 minutes for half an hour, then flush. It’s really that simple, and you will have a sparking, clean toilet.
Safety First
Both Drain Punch and P-Free are designed to be safe for your fixtures, but like any cleaning products, it is important to use and store them safely. As with any chemicals, you need to read the labels before using them and follow the instructions. In general, remember these are potent potions. They should be stored safely, kept away from children and pets, and use all proper protective equipment as noted on the labels. These products are capable of liquefying organic matter and dissolving scale and rust stains, which means they are capable of causing injury to the skin and eyes if used incorrectly.
It is also critical to note that Drain Punch is a non-acid drain cleaner, built around a kind of chemical called a base – in Drain Punch’s case, as strong of a base as there is. P-Free, on the other hand, is an acidic formula – a powerful acid formula. This means that, while the two products make a great team, each working to accomplish their own set of tasks, they are not meant to be used together on the same thing at the same time.
Acids and bases are polar opposites – like matter and antimatter. When they come into contact with each other, the resultant chemical reaction is swift and powerful. We’ve mentioned it before in the Punch Lines blog, but it is worth repeating here. The resulting reaction is the same one that you got back in school from mixing vinegar and baking soda to make a volcano, but on a much larger scale and far more powerful. Mixing these two can lead to harmful gases and even burst pipes. Remember, the goal is to avoid plumbing problems instead of creating new ones! Exercise proper care and keep Drain Punch and P-Free separated.
